PANews October 13 news: France's top financial regulator said on Tuesday that French banks' exposure to the country's public debt remains limited and does not pose a financial stability risk even if government bond yields surge. Emmanuelle Assouan, Secretary General of the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR), said at a press conference in Paris: "We are fairly reassured about the impact of recent sovereign spread movements on banks." She noted that this assessment took into account the limited size of French banks' holdings of public debt and the diversification of their portfolios. According to a report published by the ACPR on Tuesday, in 2025 French banks held about 190 billion euros ($213 billion) of the country's public debt, accounting for 24% of all sovereign bonds they hold and 2% of total assets. As the French government seeks to control the fiscal deficit, and student protests over education spending have entered their third week, France's public finances have once again become a focus for investors.
