DDoS defense pioneer starts up again: a16z leads US$38 million in investment to build AI Agent version of Tailscale

Dongcha Beating AI News, DDoS defense pioneer and Prolexic founder Barrett Lyon launched doxx.net and completed a US$38 million Series A financing, led by a16z.

You can first understand it as a Tailscale for AI Agent. It can put computers, servers and agents into the same private network, and then decide who can connect to whom and who can access what.

For example, using Tailscale, you can securely connect MacBook and Mac mini, and then restrict which devices and ports can access each other. Using doxx.net, you can also independently manage the Agent running on Mac mini. For example, only allow it to connect to a certain server and access a certain service, and other machines will not be given permission directly.

The biggest difference between it and Tailscale is that the Agent is not only connected to the network, but can also change the network configuration by itself. It can access devices, change firewalls, create internal domain names, and even complete networking by itself. Officials even allow users to directly hand over the configuration entry to the Agent, allowing it to complete these tasks on its own.

This design is mainly prepared for long-running Agents. In the future, Agents will be resident on computers and servers, deploy services and call APIs by themselves, and their permissions will become larger and larger. What doxx.net wants to do is to manage these permissions separately. Each Agent can only touch the machines and services it should touch, and can directly withdraw them when not needed.

doxx.net also operates its own IP addresses, DNS, certificate systems and network infrastructure, and provides encrypted communication between devices. The product is currently open for testing.
