Anthropic releases new AI model Claude Sonnet 5.5 featuring faster, cheaper

PANews, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Anthropic on Monday unveiled a new AI model, Claude Sonnet 5.5, positioning it as a faster, lower-cost product that it says outperforms its predecessors in programming, completing well-defined tasks, and creating documents, slideshows, and spreadsheets, according to official sources. With the launch of the more expensive Opus 5.5 less than a week away, Anthropic also said that the series' cheapest Haiku 5.5 is coming soon. Anthropic said that Sonnet 5.5 does not advance the frontier of model capabilities, and its alignment tests are mainly for risks that apply to models at any capability level. However, Sonnet 5.5 is significantly more cybersecurity capable than its predecessor and is the first Sonnet model to be introduced with similar back-up protection and cybersecurity measures.
