OpenAI Challenges Meta Muse with 24/7 Autonomous Agent Dots

Beating AI Alerts, OpenAI launched the AI agent product Dots at the Developer Day 2026 keynote, positioning it as a 24/7 AI assistant capable of connecting applications and performing tasks in the background. OpenAI says that Dots can “do almost anything” and learn user preferences as they are used. Powered by the GPT-6Astra model, Dots has an independent cloud computing environment with access to a web browser and over 4,000 supported apps. Users can communicate with Dots through an SMS-like interface, as well as voice interaction via ChatGPT web, desktop, and mobile.

OpenAI says that Dots connects to Microsoft Teams and Slack and is able to perpetuate context between different apps and devices. For example, developers can let Dots develop and test app updates based on user feedback, and content creators can let Dots analyze interview text, find video clips, generate show summaries, and social media content. Currently, only one Dot can be created by the user. In the future, OpenAI plans to support the deployment of multiple agents at the same time.

According to OpenAI, Dots have autonomy rules that allow users to set restrictions that require them to obtain authorization before performing a specific action and to check that a task meets safety requirements through the “automated review” feature. The launch is seen as OpenAI's response to Meta's recently launched MuseAI Assistant. OpenAI is currently making Dots available to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users and testing the ability for enterprise users to create dedicated “expert” Dots. The company said that in the future, users can add more Dots and increase the speed of each agent and the scale of task processing.
